Chain anchor

Chaining is a technique that is used when the desired (end) state is significantly different (too far away) from the undesired (current/present) state.

With a chain anchor we make a chain of a number of states. Beginning with the undesirable present state and ending with the desired state, we place one or two intermediate states in between.

Chain anchor

The process

  1. Get in rapport.
  2. Set the framework (tell what you are about to do).
  3. Identify the undesired Current State (CS).
  4. Choose the positive End State; the Desired State (DS).
  5. Design the chain by determining 2 or 3 Intermediate States (IS) that will lead to the final desired mood. Starting from 2 intermediate States you can ask yourself the following questions:
    * IS1: What (state) takes me away from ... (CS)
    * IS2: What (state) brings me to ... (DS)
  6. Anchor each state separately. Start with the current state (CS) and continue until the desired state (DS). Remember the break state in between, and test each anchor.
Use the knuckles of one hand to place the anchors. You can optionally install stacked anchors .
  7. Put the chain into operation by firing anchor 1 (CS).
At the peak of anchor 1 fire anchor 2 (IS1), and release anchor 1.
At the peak of anchor 2 fire anchor 3 (IS2) and release anchor 2.
At the peak of anchor 3 fire anchor 4 (DS) and release anchor 3.
Note that when firing your two knuckles are fixed together for one second, that will take care of the linking.
  8. Test: Fire anchor 1 (CS). The person should end up in the final desired state.
  9. Test: "How do you feel about the current mood?".
  10. Future pace: "Can you think of an event in the future, an event that happened in the past, and experience your present mood and notice how different it is now?"
