Changing beliefs technique

 

Part 1: Reduce the impact of an old limiting belief

  1. Create rapport and put the framework.
  2. Think of a (limiting) belief that you wish you didn’t have. Do you have an image when you think of this? We call this image 1.
  3. Determine the submodalities of image 1. (use the submodalities checklist and write it down in the first column)
  4. Breakstate.
  5. Think of a belief you had but no longer applies to you.
    For example, the belief that you are 15 years old or that Santa Claus really exists, or the belief that you are in school. Do you have something similar, what once was true for you, but not now? Which is it?
    Do you have an image when you think of this? We call this image 2.
  6. Determine the submodalities of image 2 and write it down in column 2.
  7. Use the mapping across technique to transfer the submodalities of image 2 to image 1.
  8. Test. How do you think now about that old belief?

Part 2: Installing a new empowering belief

  1. Think of a belief you have and which you are absolutely 100% sure of.
    For example, the belief that the sun will rise tomorrow morning, or the belief that it is necessary to breathe.
    When you think about it, do you have a image? We call this image 3.
  2. Determine the submodalities of image 3, and write them down in column 3.
  3. Breakstate.
  4. Think of a (empowering) belief you would like to have (often flip-side of image 1). When you think of this do you have an image? We call this image 4.
  5. Determine the submodalities of image 4 and write them down in the last column.
  6. Use the mapping across technique to transfer image 3 to image 4.
  7. Test. What do you believe now? Why do you believe that you have this new belief?
