Presuppositions of NLP

The fifteen NLP presuppositions belong to the basic foundation (one of the pillars) of the NLP methodology and help you become more successful in life.

The founders of NLP, Richard Bandler and John Grinder, wondered what it was exactly that made successful people so successful.

They found among other things that these people were living in a special way, They were unconsciously driven by strong assumptions (empowering beliefs) making them more successful in their communication and behaviour compared to others. These principles are grouped in the NLP presuppositions.

The assumptions are not the "absolute truth", but subjective beliefs. They give you space and flexibility in your communication and behaviour so you will be more successful. Below are the 15 NLP presuppositions that the trainers of Mind Academy handle and explain in the NLP Practitioner training.

NLP presuppositions

  1. Respect the 'world model' of the other.
  2. The meaning of your communication is the response you get.
  3. The map is not the territory. The words we use are NOT the event that they show.
  4. The behaviour is not who the person is. Accept the person, not necessarily the behaviour.
  5. The meaning of all the behaviour is dependent on the context.
  6. Every behaviour has a positive intention.
  7. Each current behaviour is the best choice there is.
  8. The most important information about a person's is this person’s behaviour.
  9. Everyone has all the resources needed to achieve the desired results.
  10. There are no unresourceful people, only unresourceful states.
  11. Everyone has the lead over his mind and therefore his results.
  12. The person with the most flexible behaviour has the greatest influence.
  13. There is no failure, only feedback.
  14. Resistance at a party is a sign of lack of rapport.
  15. All procedures should broaden choices and focus on unification of the person .
